Soil Classification and Education Conference

The conference took place on 18-20 May in Toruń (Poland). The meeting was organize to summarize the three-year (2016-2018) international FACES project financed by the Erasmus + program. This event was organized by scientists associated in a consortium of FACES project and scientists from the Department of Soil Science and Landscape Management (Toruń) and Department of Soil Science and Land Protection (Poznań), under the auspices of the Soil Science Society of Poland. Nearly 90 soil scientists from many countries (Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Spain, Iran, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Poland, South Africa, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, USA, UK, Hungary, Italy), participated in the conference.

During the conference participants had possibility to took part in a chosen field trips (trip 1. Soils from the kayaks – soils developed within the subglacial channel in the Brodnickie Lake District; trip 2. In and around the former mill pond basin – soils developed within the basin of the former mill pond and its immediate surroundings in the area of the Grudziądz Basin).  Diring the field trips the newly created  Guidelines for Soil Description and Classification, Central and Eastern European Student’s Version was tested. Moreover, the Soil Sequences Atlas II was presented.  Both items constitute the final results of the FACES project.
